The “American Dream” is losing its pull among Indian students. 📉
According to new data from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration, Indian student arrivals to the U.S. dropped by 44% in August compared to last year.
Only 41,540 Indian students entered the U.S. this year.
That’s a sharp decline for a country that has long been one of America’s largest sources of international students.
The reasons are clear:
→ U.S. universities have reportedly limited international admissions to 15% — with a 5% cap for any single country. 🚫
→ Rising costs of education. 💸
→ Layoffs and uncertainty in the global tech industry. 💻⚠️
For many Indian students, especially those eyeing Computer Science programs, the value equation no longer adds up.
A $100K degree looks less appealing when tech jobs are unstable. 🤔
India, alongside China and South Korea, has always been a major feeder for U.S. universities.
But this decline signals a deeper shift — one where the dream is being recalibrated. 🔄
Students aren’t just chasing foreign degrees anymore.
They’re chasing opportunity, stability, and ROI. 🎯
And right now, that might not mean the U.S. 🇺🇸
